1950’s Yorkshire
Norman and Anna first visited the Yorkshire Dales in the mid 1950’s. Norman fell in love with the landscape and they bought a house in 1956. Until 1960 they spent the winters teaching in London and the summers in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Norman would walk up the lane to the moors and paint in his favourite places. At the end of the summer of 1958, Norman described the summer painting on the Moors as ‘The childhood he had never had’.
